My best friend and I have joined BYC to soak in the knowledge of its users until we purchase our first chicks at the end of this year or the beginning of next. We live in Southwest Florida (Gulf coast, a little north of the Everglades). We have our hopeful breeds picked out and our likely vendor. We have friends and family with chickens but we (including our husbands) have not owned our own. We live very close to one another in a somewhat rural, suburban town; both on a little over a quarter acre and both surround by untouched lots (I have one neighbor directly behind me 
). We are newer home owners and are attempting to become more self sufficient by growing our own food (going on a couple years now) and hopefully soon collecting eggs! We are starting from scratch and don't even know what kind of coops we will build yet or what to expect when we finally get our chicks. We are excited to get to know everyone and gain some much needed knowledge! My name is Stephanie and Courtney will be posting below!
