I got some pullets and the person i got them from said they should start to lay in 4 months but they are not laying. I have noticed that the comb is just starting to come out. Do the chickens have to have there comb before they start to lay.
The person told me to give them start and grow till they lay there first egg. I got the pullets the end of Feb/16.

can anyone give me some info on this. please.

No need to worry.
Your birds are young. Their combs will turn red when come into lay.

If the comb turns red (I have one fully red now, of 6) does that mean I have to get the nesting boxes in pronto? Our coop is just secured; the chickens are in...and the nest boxes have yet to be built!
Thanks for any insight...

Yes. Get your nest boxes in and they will start trying them out. Sounds like one is near ready too lay.
