I have 2 broody hens who are tandem brooding, it started with my Cochin who I let have 8 eggs but 3 days later the hole I closed up that leads from the coop to the broody pen was opened up and one of my black sexlinks was in there with her and they somehow had 22 eggs under the both of them. On the 3rd of June 2 chicks hatched and both mamas where and still are very attentive we now have 6 chicks it seems they are hatching about 1 every day or so. My question is do I let them sit until they give up on the rest or should I somehow take the rest at a certain point? My cochin is fine with me checking on the chicks and eggs but I have to be quick before the BSL comes back so I haven't candled since day 10. My one hen is so protective that if she sees me go in there while shes off the nest she will run in there and take all the babies and hide them under herself she'll even take them right out from under the other hen.
