I got 4 mixed silkies back in April and as their feathers started growing in I realized the "mixed silkie" sign did not, in fact, mean there were several colors in the feed store bin. In my excitement over my first batch of chickens I temporarily lost my mind. Once grown up feathers started growing in, I finally realized I had actually gotten silkie crosses. No matter to me since they're just for eggs and enjoyment, but my curiosity has been growing, especially once 2 of them started getting copper feathers on their necks. The other two are also completely different looking. Any guesses on what these chicks might be? Bonus points if you guess the gender!

2 chicks look like this (but only one was willing to pose):
700

700

700

Then there's the pouf:
400

And last we have this girl (?):
700

700

700

Not even Silkie crosses - the first (and her sister, presumably) is a Black Sex Link. The second looks like most likely a Polish cross. The third I can't see to well - could be a Black Australorp though I'd need a photo in clearer light showing the comb to be sure (for some reason the comb almost looks rose in these photos but I don't have a good view of it??). The Sex Link is definitely a pullet and the others appear female so far.

Ah, that makes sense - the Black Sex Link bin was right next to the mixed Silkies bin...and I've read several posts about the farm stores get chicks mixed up or customers putting them in the wrong bin. I hadn't read much about the Black Sex Links, but after looking them up? What neat looking hens they are! And after reading about their temperament it makes sense. The two black sex links and the two red stars we got are much more docile about being petted/held than the other two. Also, I'm a little relieved to know for sure they're pullets! I'm interested to see how the Polish looks when she finishes growing - that "hair"! For the last chick, here are 2 more pics of her. One showing her face/comb a little better and one for a size reference (it's a pretty dark picture - she was hiding in the shade). Do these help any? I can try to get a better one, but it's like she know what I'm doing when I have my phone or a camera out!
