Lighting "in the run"

Not sure if this is the right place for this,
I have been pondering the thought of lighting the chicken run, good-bad-stupid, we had built a rustic looking coop and just the other day we rebuild a run, we had thought about painting the run sand color to at least match the house, put some flower boxes on the outside, just something to dress it up, and been thinking about led lighting strips up under the roof or even inside,
Now my question, anyone done this, or just bad for the chickens, colors good-bad,
Any thoughts on this good or bad hit me, I don't want to hurt our little ones just dress up their home,,

Depending on the intensity of the light it could toss of their return to the coop for the night...

If you put lights inside they should only be on for the day light hours or about 16 hours maximum, as the bird needs 'rest time' and they will do better with no lights during rest time as it keeps them on a cycle...

If you want to optimize laying, you can put the inside coop lights on a timer and adjust them so that they turn on about 14 hours before sunset, and keep adjusting every two weeks as the daylight hours change... This will provide them with the same light amount each day and optimize egg production even in the winter... But, you should also have food and water in the coop if you do this since they will want both when the lights switch on...
 
Thanks for the input,, I do hove food and water in both areas inside and out just to make sure they have the opertunity for it anywhere, as for the lights, I don't plan on having them on all the time, just some times when we are out back sitting or just hanging out with friends & family, my main concern was the well being of them and to make sure it wouldn't hurt them, I know they need their rest time especially when laying, I just wanted to make sure the low LEDs wouldn't hurt them and if not if any certain colors,,

Light won't hurt them unless it's bright enough to disturb their sleep patterns... I have multiple area lights (street lights) around the property so I can walk it and see at night and they are on all night long but inside the coop it's still plenty dark, the dim glow doesn't effect them... But, the minute they catch a sweep of a flashlight or car headlights they all wake up and get restless...
