one side of the air cell-- i don't think this turkey is big enough. the air cell looks great though

the other side.

another view.

i am hoping so much that this turkey stays internally pipped for another 24 hours at least, externally pips, and stays that way for 24+hours. at least the air cell is plenty big and should have lots of oxygen. can a poult survive if it hatches out at day 25? that would be tomorrow.

there is one more live egg in this hatch (small batch in the bator) and it is not internally pipped, hasn't begun the big air cell growth that i usually see in the last day or two before lockdown, and looks on track to hatch sat/sun. i'm not sure what happened to this one.

One of mine hatched day 25, the other day 26. The day 25 one slept for two days straight. He had an exposed navel and a little yolk so I kept him stuffed in the bottom half of the shell and wrapped in a damp washcloth. He's five weeks old today and finally catching up in size, healthy as can be.

oh goodness, this makes me feel better. thank you!! i will get to reading up on how to treat an early hatcher just in case. if this little one can hold off even until saturday morning i will feel so much confident.

still no external pip. so glad!! that means it can easily be late tomorrow before this turkey hatches out! i set the eggs on a sunday around lunch time, so a friday night is a day 26/27 hatch and i feel much better about those odds. stay in lil' turkey! stay in!!!

it externally pipped some time in the last 3 hours!! i had upped the humidity to 60% to give the other egg a chance to expand its cell more, and now i've got the humidity up in the 70s and the second egg is propped with the cell near an air vent. fingers crossed for everyone-- that the pipper stays put for another 24 hours and that the second egg catches enough air!

well, some time this morning between 8 and 10 the turkey made its pip significantly larger. it went from a barely there crack to a 3/4 tall diamond shaped thing that i thought was the start of a zip. but as of now, more than 12 hours after that big crack, more than 48 hours after the internal pip and well over 27 hours after the external pip, no progress. it seems to be fine. from what i can tell the membrane is still nice and elastic, turkey is breathing, conditions are stable. so really, this little one is doing exactly what i wanted-- stalling! but making me nervous in the process haha!

i've been up just about every hour or two through the night. it hasn't changed position or rotated since the initial pip over 36 hours ago. beak is in the exact same spot and the turkey isn't cheeping much or making any strong movements. i don't think it's going to have the energy to finish by itself. the membrane that was exposed is brown, but the inner membrane still looks fine. i went ahead and zipped just the shell really carefully. there was one spot that looked like it gave a pinpoint spot of pink blood, everything else looks very clear. so hopefully little turkey has enough in it to push out soon!
