Hello, we recently moved from downtown Denver to PA. One day after closing we purchased 6 Marans pullets. 4 and 3 months old. 4 different colors. They are in a garden shed about 9 by 12 with high ceilings. It has typical shed doors. One we now call "Missy" (or Missing) got out and ran away for 48 hours, couldn't catch her, then she disappeared again for 24 hours. Finally caught her last night! Bad girl! I have been keeping them in their shed for about a week so they know it's home. Getting chicken wire Tue for a temporary yard. They won't eat any greens, that surprises me. Anyhow, thanks for this great site, I am sure I will be on here often!

Glad to hear you got the little runaway back safely! They will adapt and learn to eat greens in time. If they did not eat it previously, they are probably a bit weary of it at the moment. For the chicken run, chicken wire will do a good a job keeping your hens IN, but it's not much use keeping chicken predators OUT. If there is any risk of predators in your area, I'd suggest you look for something sturdier, like welded wire or hardware cloth.
 
Thank you for any advice. I was going to lay the chicken wire about a foot covering the ground, cover with dirt to prevent animal digging? Maybe I should use hardware cloth instead for that? They didn't eat snap peas that I left in there last night. I am feeding layer food but I read on here not to yet?

Covering the ground with chicken wire sounds like a good idea, but if you want to keep out predators you only really need to put it around the edges. I don't know about the food.
