What Age to Let Chicks Walk Around in Garden

If they go outside, do sprinkle some sand or grit on the grass so they can peck at it. The things they might eat in the yard need extra digestion, and grit helps with just that.
That supplemental grit is needed if you feed them treats before they're allowed outside. If they're out on grass, they have access to all the natural grit they want -- dirt. No need to give them additional grit to the grit they already have under their feet. The first thing they do when they hit the grass is start pecking at the ground.
