Help! Have not seen them like this before!

We recently got some new babies (my husband laughs at me because i always call the new chickens my new babies, lol) weve had them for about a week and ive noticed some of them look like they are molting, but they are only 3ish months? So im not sure what is going on with them. They dont have any breathing problems, the only 'sign' they have is 1-2 of them have runny poo, but imnot sure what kind of feed she was using so i dont know if changing their feed would make them have the runs either.. they arent outside with our rooster yet but they were where we got them from.

Could be mites and being trapped in filthy conditions. Birds sit when they sleep. They could have been sleeping in feces, which is acidic. Thus eating away their feathers and irritating their skin. My cornish rocks sit alot because they are fat. This rubs their feathers away. Sprinkle diatomacious_earth on them

I will try that! I have kept their water and food clean since we got them and have changed the bedding out 3 times in the week we've had them.

I just didn't want to put them out in the coop till I knew that they were okay, and wouldn't get picked on by my older hens!

I would give them something to boost their immune system also if it were me. A probiotic in their water and possibly some extra vitamins. Poor little chicks. People make me so angry. Grrr...

I did not notice their bellies until about day 3 of having them (when I changed their bedding the first time) and I thought that their necks may have been from getting their feathers in (my older hens took about a week from baby fluffy to feathers on their necks) but when I noticed their bellies I knew there had to be something else!!!

I've read that I can give them the baby probiotic vitamin supplement drops (without iron) would that be good to start them on as well?

What type of feed are they on? Chicks should be on chick starter. I agree with advice given by the other members. Probiotics is a good option. You may also want to give them Sav A Chick. It will help rehydrate them from the runny poo.

If this is the only chick that has the issue, it could just be this particular breed feathers out later than others. I have an Easter Egger hen that looks like she is molting 9 months of the year. If that turns out to be the case with yours, WHEN IT IS OLD ENOUGH (I think 6 months is the bench mark), you can feed it "feather fixer" feed. It helps my girl.

My guess would be sitting in wet/dirty pen. Add a small roosting bar in their new place. Keep us posted please.

Are the runny poos constant? I missed where you said they were outside with the flock at their old home. So I am wondering if coccidiosis is a possibility. I guess though that they would have more signs. Evidently they are active and eating well? I keep Corid on the shelf just in case but haven't had to use it. A good friend of mine uses Poly-Visol (without iron) and pedialyte for weak chicks. I just looked at my Sav-a-ChIck packets. The probiotic is probiotic and the electrolyte packet also has vitamins. So either way will get them what they need. Also hard boiled egg would be good as protein helps with feather growth. I really hope it is partly their breed on the feathering because at 3ish months they are sad looking little chicks. My 3 1/2 month old chicks have been subjected to flooding issues for a week and were pathetic looking until we could get things dried out but now they are dry and don't look anything like that. These chicks must have been exposed to a wet environment for awhile. I also put ACV (apple cider vinegar WITH the mother) in their water 2-3 times a week and have since they were chicks. This is a good preventative for possible cocci problems.My run got flooded badly and I immediately started the ACV in their water. Please keep us posted.

They are starter/ grower feed. It's not a constant runny poo, but it did make me concerned when I saw it! They eat and drink very well, and are active all day long.

I am going to get some vitamins for them this evening. I'm not sure on their breed she called them muts so I don't know if she even knew what breed they are. They were outside at their old place, and I'm hoping in keeping them confined and treating them will help with their feathering!

We started them on acv water and vitamins 2 days ago, and they are looking better already! Thank you guys so much!!
