Hi,

I am new to the whole chicken thing, love my chickens. I am in the process of making a new chick pad "Run". I have a quick question...I came home today and found a plethora of ants on my chicks food. I as so mad, I took the chicks out and really didn't know what to do...I watered them out and then put new sand in with shavings.

Any suggestions on natural way to get rid of ants? I felt so bad for my chickens. I just cleaned out their house yesterday 4th of July.

Much appreciated for any suggestions.

Debra

Ants will come in for accessible food and water - personally have never found a "natural way" to rid an area of ants. Except have had success in disturbing the ant bed - exposing the home and they move on - but they may not move far enough to help with the problem?

But if you do some detective work and trace the ant trails to their source and find the mounds ( hopefully outside the coop/run) you can treat those with a garden dust and the ants move on ... If the mound is inside the run - treat it and cover it with something so the chicks cannot access anything harmful?
