Yes i know wat backslopping is im saying instead of adding more water i could just add in a bit more dey feed until i get consistency?? Also im on day 2 of fermenting should i add some more dry mix now?

You can add feed later to get the consistency you want.

DAY 2 of fermenting smells very yeasty like sour dough smells really good actually so thats a good thing.. I know the traditional thing is to leave it for 4 days but when it smells yeast does that mean its ready to serve from?

Nobody says you have to leave it for 4 days....if it's started to ferment and it likely has if it smells a little yeasty and sour, then you can start feeding it out.

Don't know...never tasted it. But, the birds don't mind HOW sour it gets, they will gobble it up anyway. If it starts smelling too rank before you finish feeding out your jar, you can always make a smaller batch next time. Keep it in a cool, dark place in the summer months if you can but just in a shady, airy space in the coop is fine if you want, that's where I keep mine.

Well i mixed some mashed boiled egg through the frrmented feed when i gave it to the chicks this morning and they love it so much more then dry mix!

I mixed my first batch of FF last night. I had read the blog on the Scratch and Peck website to add extra water, then drain it before feeding. I also added a couple T spoons ACV. What I'm not sure about is whether to cover the containers (using plastic until I can get glass jars). I've just set the lids loosely on top. Should they be covered?

So I am going to try this out. My flock isnt eating much of their dry feed due to being free range. So I think I will feed them this and keep the dry feed out too. I use scratch as a way to get them back in the coop early so I dont have to go out at night to lock them up.

Especially when starting a new ferment, it would be a good idea to leave it uncovered. You want to inoculate it with the bacteria and fungi that are free floating in your air. If you feel the need to cover it, you could simply put a layer of cheese cloth over it.

OK so I have a stupid question. I was cleaning the fish tanks today and adding AquaSafe- it takes out the chlorine. got me to thinking about the filtered water issue for my fermented chicken feed. I have been leaving a container of water open on the kitchen counter - which I am not too happy with - so the chlorine could evaporate.
Could you use AquaSafe to remove the chlorine from the water for chickens like it does for aquariums? Would it be safe for the chickens?
