My little quails just started laying the day before yesterday. I've had them since Feb and had given up on eggs and hadn't been giving Cal supplements, just turkey grumble as the main diet. Sprouts, seeds, crickets and some fresh fruit and veggie as a treat now and then.(hope she will be ok) Since the first egg I added cooked eggs with shells and oysters shells ground flaxseed to the daily diet. The eggs look fine ?? I think. she has laid every other day so far. I don't know if they will care for the eggs the male makes a nest and rolls the egg around sits on them for a few seconds and calls her over. She doesn't seem to concerned with the egg(yet read they will fill the nest first) but I have 7 days to get set up to care for the eggs(I read its 7days). They didn't have an incubator at the feed store when I looked today going to call around tomorrow (one won't ship in time)I also add a nest box with hay and put the first egg in. Just three sided box no top, she does lay in it(well the second egg) but the male moves the eggs out so I just put them back (don't know if that's ok) if anyone has any advice or if I should change diet. When/if I get incubator in time just checking temp 99.5 to 101 humidity is it 50% till last 3 days and 70% (can it be higher than 50% to start) any advice at all

If she hatches the eggs how long till she lays again? And they have a top open cage 2.1/2feet high 2.1/2ft wide and 4ft long (is that to small) l clipped the wings so they won't fly out or bonk. I was told (by the woman at the bird shop and I would think she should know more than me) that they can't mate that way. I have seen what I'm pretty sure was them doing the deed but I know nothing so .... do they need to be flighted to breed?

I'll leave the incubator questions to others.. But I can help with the rest. Egg laying slowly depletes the hen of calcium if she doesn't get sufficient supplements - when she hasn't been laying yet, she will have enough calcium to lay several eggs before either she or the eggs show signs of the depletion. So it's a good thing you quickly added the oyster shell.
I would leave the eggs alone, to avoid stressing the birds by putting my hands in the cage, but as long as you only move them back to where she laid them, you might not be doing any harm.
The diet sounds good - just aim for 24+ % protein overall and you should be fine even if you get chicks.
The cage size is pretty much what I use, so I think it's okay - some people say 1 square foot per bird, but I don't think that allows them to move enough.
Rather than clipping their wings, I'd make a lid out of soft mesh or similar for the cage. That way they can't escape and they won't get hurt if they fly into it. With regards to mating with clipped wings, some birds - like parrots - use the wing to hold on to the female while they do some kind of sideways breeding thing. They can have balance issues if you clip their wings. Quail, being on the ground and mating in a more up-down-style rather than the parrots' sideways style, I don't think it matters as much, but it might have some influence.
With regards to laying after being broody.. I think it'll take a couple of weeks, but I don't remember exactly.

Where did you get your button quail from? I want to get some of these adorable things!! Can't find any place to get them though

I got the male at magnolia bird farm (think they ship) the female I got at a feed store by my house
Thanks DK for the info
Had to put the male in jail... he was chasing and pecking her
700
he has food and water I will probably move him in side in a cage till they hatch

she is sitting on her four eggs now

I ended up incubating then for the last week she stopped sitting two hatched last night

does anyone know what color they will be? Can I put them back with mom now so she can raise them? They are eating and drinking ..... demanding little things. They want my hand all the time ..lol

What color are the parents? At least one of them looks like it's tuxedo or split tuxedo, otherwise they look wild colored to me.

Parents are my profile pic he has a red belly( bros and sister looked pied, black bib red belly some more brown on back) she was from a different shop but she was the lightest one

Does either of the parents have white feathers at the tip of their wings? Daddy looks wild colored, mom might be cinnamon. Cinnamon is recessive, so the chicks carry the gene but don't display it. Tuxedo seems to be incomplete dominant - a bird usually has a few white feathers if it has a single dose of the gene and displays the full tuxedo marking if it has two.

Mom has cream wing tips.... another egg hatch last night ... how long should I leave the last two eggs?

I think its cinnamon it look like it will have reddish stripes but for some reason the stripes take like a day to show up

I will post new pics later
