Hello! First time with Chickens this year! purchased 6 baby chicks in March. Also had someone give us 6, 1 yr old buff orpingtons. Since then i just keep expanding the flock purchasing some chickens here and there off craigslist :) its addicting! The reason I found this page was because today I had an issue I was googling, and your site came up. So I'm hoping to be able to find help and advice throughout my chicken journey!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join us here! It sure does sound like you have the chicken bug there! I'm afraid it happens to us all. My flock grew rather unexpectedly and without me really noticing, oops!
Wishing you the very best of luck for the future and be sure to ask any questions. Everyone here to help.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

I hope you found the answer to your issue! Regarding chicken addiction… Well, I went from 2 to 16 in no time. Absolutely no idea how that happened!

Wondering if anyone had any suggestions, i only got 1 response and now nothing from my post.
Original post
" I had a buff oprington go broody and so I bought her some fertilized eggs to hatch. We are on day 14 of her sitting on them and my kids were naughty and messing around with the hen (I didn't see this happen) and said that one egg cracked. I went and looked and one egg is cracked and indented and some blood has come out. This is my first time with Chickens and first time trying to hatch eggs. Will the egg be ok, or what do i need to do? I was worried about her eating it and maybe then wanting to eat the other eggs. Suggestions Please!! "
My 1 response i got said it wouldnt make it and to remove the egg, so i went to remove it and she had eaten it :( my question now is, will this make it so she eats the others as they hatch? Also there is like a yellow substance from her eating it on the other eggs, do i need to clean them? Will bacteria be a problem? Any suggestions?

It's normal for hens to eat cracked eggs as a way to clean the nest. I personally would leave her alone and not worry too much. If it's really messy I might change some bedding while she's out of the nest. Hopefully your kids leave her be and the rest hatch.
