My girls are now 21 weeks. At 16 weeks one of them laid a huge, oddly shaped egg, outside the coop on the ground. Today, 5 weeks later, I found a tiny egg the size of a jelly bean in the nest box. It was so funny looking next to the big huge honker of an egg. Why would she drop a huge egg in the run and 5 weeks later drop a jelly bean in the nest box? Could this be 2 different birds?

With all these shenanigans, I don't know what to expect or who is laying these random eggs. It is like an Easter egg hunt every day with my girls. Any thoughts?

I am thinking about investing in a camera to watch them during the day while I am at work. There are so many options for cameras now. I am fascinated with who is doing what during the day.

We have 4 rescue banty hens that were laying when I rescued them. I have 6 assorted LF pullets (Orp, SFH, Polish, EE, Wyandote, Brahma) that I purchased from MPC 21 weeks ago. I have had so much fun and learned so much since last March. Hubby made me a beautiful 8X4 functioning coop with plenty of room for all and 16X16 run. The girls seem happy with the recent addition of supervised free ranging. My interest in chickens increases every day. Can't wait to get home to them to discover something new. They are so smart and quirky.

Your coop is a little on the small side. Rule of thumb is 4-5 sq. feet per bird, excluding roosts and nest boxes. Your coop is 32 sq. feet for 10 birds you would need 40 sq.feet

Outdoor run would be 10 sq. feet per bird.
