Not sure if this is the right forum for this but anyways....I live in the St.Robert Missouri area. Are there shows anywhere near me or not?
Also once I get an answer I'm going to ask if my Lavender Orpington Cockerel is show quality.

Another thing I am wanting to know is how do you know if your birds are show quality?

Thanks!

There's a thread I made now and it had him in it " Is My Bird Show Quality? ~ Thread ~ "

The way you judge your own bird is the same way your bird will be judged at a sanctioned show, by a licensed judge.

By the Standard written for the breed. That Standard, that detailed description, as well as all other accepted breed standards, are published together in the encyclopedia like book called the Standard of Perfection. Published and sold only the American Poultry Association. $59 delivered.

Exhibition quality birds are typically hatched out of stock bred for that quality. Typically, it takes many generations and selections of those special birds out of hundreds hatched and raised. If you desire exhibition quality stock, you'll have to become a breeder of high quality birds and secure your start from others in the hobby. Such birds are relatively rare. It is a life long learning process much like learning to paint valuable water color or oil paintings or learning to be a top sculptor of high quality art.

Best of luck to you should you decide to pursue the hobby.

PS: The bird isn't an accepted color, lacks the breed's type and is no where near exhibition quality. Sorry.

Thank you Fed's Hens! It's okay that he isn't show quality and his color isn't recognized by the APA. Aren't SLWs recognized?
