How to remove excess yolk from a chick

Help my husband "helped" a chick hatch and then put it back in the incubator to dry. When I went to check on it in a few hours it's dry but stuck in a little ball and can't move! I've been trying to wash it with warm water and a rag but I'm not making any progress! Does anybody know of a way to remove them excess dried yolk off a chick?
Somebody told me dawn dishsoap and another told me baby oil but I don't want to try anything until I know it's safe for the little guy!

Most chicks who have to be assisted during hatch (something which should absolutely be avoided unless it's life or death for the chick) will remain sticky-looking for a while afterwards. They should lose this appearance after a week or so.
 
since you said he can't move - I would suggest bathing him in warm water with some Dawn dish , keep his head above water. Be sure to rinse well and either use towels to dry him or a hair dryer set on low, so he doesn't chill. It may take a couple of baths to get all the goop off. But, doing it once, should allow him to be mobile.
 
I have done warm water and a drop of Dawn, the blow dry on low- mine seem to enjoy that! My last assist had to be bathed twice to get it all off.
 
Hello there! Welcome to Backyard chickens! I have not yet incubated any eggs, I always just get them as 2 day old chicks, so I do not know the answer to that question, but I would post in the incubating thread. I hope you enjoy BYC!
