hay all, I have a cornix hen that every week or so she lays a egg with no shell on it and sometimes it has no yolk.its in the inner lineing and pretty neat but was wandering what causes it.little girl want to save one but don't know what solution to put it in to keep it.any sugg. thanks

Most likely she isn't getting enough calcium. I like to give my quail dried egg shells that are ground very fine. I save all the egg shells from their eggs and my ducks' eggs. You can also give oyster shell but it is packaged for larger birds, like chickens, so the pieces are generally too big for a quail. You can grind them smaller in a food processor but it will damage the machine. You can also get calcium citrate (in the vitamin aisle). Crush it into a powder and sprinkle it on the food.

How old is this quail? Young hens can lay abnormal eggs until their reproductive tract settles into the rhythm of laying, and very old hens can sputter out on their last eggs.

Offer a calcium supplement to her 24/7 free choice. I also sprinkle crushed eggshells in their food. It improves their eggshell quality.

Stress can also cause eggs to come out without a shell. I don't know how she is housed; indoors or out, aviary, smaller cage, other pets etc. If there is a predator staring her down, construction nearby, enclosure changes, flapping tarp, or other thing that might be scaring her?

I would have to agree with Sill. With all of the different variables. I had a hen throwing a soft egg.
#1 she was young
#2 the clutch of one roo and four hens producing 5 eggs one day then 3 good and one soft the next.
So assumed trowing two eggs causing the problem.
#3 add crushed calcium and yes destroyed the little food processor. I add crushed egg shells now.

No more soft eggs. Still inconstancy on eggs produced per day though.

My quail laid 2 eggs one with a shell and one without, I grind oysters shell with there food I also give lettuce.
She is only around 12 week.

You can put the inner membrane egg in a jar with tight fitting lid, in denatured alcohol to preserve it.
TSC sells chick grit, fine ground oyster shell. Also try giving them kale, very high in calcium and magnesium.

Don't mix the calcium into their food. Put it in a dish near the food, and they'll pick at it. That way, each bird gets exactly how much calcium they need, without any worry of some getting too much or too little. It's an especially good idea if you have any roos, since they need way less calcium due to not making an eggshell a day.

Rubbing/isopropyl alcohol works fine as a preservative for small things, just pop it in. Be sure your jar lid is on tight so it can't evaporate.
