EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Thank you - I was actually spending a decent amount of time looking at joinery/chisel-craft recently. (You always post the coolest things!!!!)

This is what I'm going to put together next once I get these tractors assembled: Clay pot "refrigerators" (work well in dry climates like mine):

Well, I don't think there is a shortage of possums if she does want one. I had to kill this one mainly because it had become accustomed to coming in the coop - if I didn't, when it grew up it would likely go after the chickens at night.

Quote: Yes, they are interesting.

My marans also lay speckled eggs - when I give eggs away or barter, they are the favorites of the different colors.
The rooster i thought the fox got a few days ago showed back up yesterday afternoon(missing alot of feathers but otherwise seems fine) MIA for around 48hrs. Hen is still missing but I suspect he went in her defense and she didn't make it back. Interestingly enough I was more upset about losing the rooster. He's a backyard mix but a pretty boy and the only one I kept after processing.
I find the same thing - I am more attached to the roosters. I think part of it is that so much care goes into choosing one (vs. keeping most pullets), and also because I expect them to be good watchmen and caretakers, and mine are.

Quote: Yes, it's Fiesta. This is the official memorial day for the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. It's a holiday for many folks (including me). It's celebrated all week (or two) and culminates with a giant parade today - it's a little like mardi gras. Complete with drunken idiots and crowds. I tend to stay home.

Had breakfast with kajira - so awesome, we both had bacon cheeseburgers for breakfast.

Then I went to the feed store and in the parking lot I got a text form a colleague who was in the office today - there was "some sort of bird on campus", and what should she do. I went by - and apparently there's a quail (?) who is considering applying for admission to medical school. (Seems that no one told him that it's a campus holiday).

On that note, I need to get to work on all my chores.

@kajira - These are the broody pics from the Old Fashioned Broody thread I was telling you about. Broody was sitting on ONE egg, was willing to adopt 21 chicks out of the incubator. They just kept sticking them under her. She's a good mom.

That's no quail; looks like a pheasant of some variety I'm not familiar with.

What a cute bird. From a distance.

And yes. Burgers are awesome.

"...Come prima
Piu di prima
T'amero

Per la vita, la mia vita
Ti daro
Sembra un sogno rivederti accarezzarti
Le tue mani fra le mani stringere ancor

Il mio mondo, tutto il mondo sei per me
A nessuno voglio bene come a te
Ogni giorno, ogni stante
Dolcemente ti diro'

Come prima
Piu di prima
T'amero

Where is everyone? I am singing in Italian, that is dangerous. .........
