Hoping someone can help.
I have 2 females sitting on separate nests. Both due to hatch in a week. I have 2 males and 6 females. One of the males keeps chasing one of the females off her nest. I'm guessing common sense is to remove the male because he's trying to bring her back into heat?
 
Probably, yes. If you can do it without disturbing the ones on the nests too much. I'd take a female out with him, to prevent him from calling too much.
 
Thanks for the reply DK. My biggest concern is stressing them and the finches that are also nesting because I have a large aviary so there'll be a lot of running around trying to catch them. I'll monitor it for another day and see if it's happening regularly. There hasn't been any further issues since my original post.
 
You don't have a fishing net you can catch them with? In general, it can be done relatively easily, without any running around in my aviary. Not that it's big enough to run in ^^
Actually, I recently caught a broody hen by accident - I hadn't seen she had a nest, but I'd noticed her behaving strangely so I checked to make sure she wasn't egg bound and didn't see the nest before releasing her back into the cage.. She's still broody but of course I have yet to see whether any chicks come from her efforts.
 
I noticed that some of my males would chase off the hen and sit on the eggs themselves. Also, this doesn’t really have anything to do with your question, but how big is the wire on your aviary? Button chicks can fit through rabbit wire.
 
Good point - button chicks can fit through just about everything. I think my mesh is 12x12 mm and I tried with a dead chick once - no need for pushing and pulling, it fit right through. My mesh is attached to a 4-inch board at the bottom though, so they are not actually in contact with the mesh and thus I've had none escape. Larger wire might still be a problem though, sometimes the parent scratch quite violently for food and they could send a chick flying - through the wire, if the wire allows the chick to pass sideways.

Thanks for the replies. It seems they're getting along fine now. My aviary is 3mx3mx2m high so plenty of room to run around and fly straight up. The wire mesh is 12mmx12mm but the bottom part is covered so they can't get through. The first batch is due to hatch this week. It would be 15 days since she started sitting on them in 2 days so fingers crossed.
