Your experience with Ideal Poultry

@Melodychick please be sure to read the red print that is there if they are out of stock. It will usually say something like "Out of stock until July 2017." Or "Out of stock until Spring 2018." They also have a policy of not shipping certain males without also selling females. No problem selling just the females without males.

When I ordered they did have a limited selection, but I expected that this late in the season. I was lucky they actually still had several breeds I was interested in. My primary interest was in proven egg production in colors other than white, with a minor in having a diverse and pretty flock. I picked six breeds and am quite happy with my chicks so far.

Best of luck on your chicks!

Ordered my chicks on Monday, they shipped Wednesday and received them today. All 8 healthy and happy!

I ordered 25 in late May. Except for the extra one who didn't survive shipping, all are doing well & growing. Growing fast.

Expecting eggs by Halloween.

Had a few pasty butts early. Those cleared up quickly. No other issues.

congratulations on your chicks & enjoy the adventure!

Just took these photos a moment ago of them with their first piece of sod (sprinkled a teeny bit of grit on it, even though they've all had some already) and all 25 are doing great!
The single Ideal 236 hybrid layer I got to fill out my 25 chick 1/4 box order is the only one that has persistent poopy butt, but it doesn't clog her vent, so all good. I don't know if it's coincidence, but I doubt it. She seems as absolutely healthy as the other 24. I'm quite pleased with my chicks from Ideal. Time will tell now just how accurate their sexing has been on the non-sex linked chicks. If one of the Black Austalorps turns out to be a roo, I'll be hard pressed to let him go. Those are such handsome iridescent fellows!

The Leghorns and Ideal 236s are growing the most. The Barred Plymouth Rocks were the ones with the pasty butts.
The Rhode Island Reds and Production Reds are in the middle growth wise.
I hope the pasty butt doesn't last long. It didn't last longer than a week and mostly right after they arrived.
We ordered 9 surprise pullets and received 3 RIR, 3 Production Reds and 3 more Barred Rocks. Neat stuff.

Your idea about the Easter Eggers having green eggs is a good idea. We have plans for the next order. Cheers!
