Coming here to get started with chickens... starting with breed advice

That's definitely a good plan! I always suggest a mixture of breeds for a first flock. That way you know what you like and what you don't. Our advice can only get you so far, as it's only your own personal preferences that can decide which breed works best for you.

I don't think I could ever have a single breed flock. When I got my first ladies, I went through and took one out of each bin at the farm store! I had a little less luck keeping in the leghorns and California whites though.

I'm going to have 3 flocks. 2 I will sell and 1 will be mine to keep. The 2 I will sell will consists of 1 breeds per flock and my personal flock will be a mix. The once I sell all of one breed I will start selling a new one and if I like the breed I'll add it to my personal flock, does that all make sense?

I am doing similar. Except I am dividing my flock mixed flock into smaller flocks of purebreds. Then I will hatch chicks from the pure pens to sell. I will likely do day old chicks, starts chicks and point of lay pullets. Any that don't sell will replace older birds and cockerels will enter freezer camp.
