Ohh goodness. We got these turkey's last month and didn't ask any questions. Just went home happy. I assume they were in born in June. The tom Sam weights 7 kilo, Robin is 5 and Nami is 4 kilos.
Now I am sure they were not vaccinated against anything. 2 weeks ago they came down with Blackhead.
Now our Tom has Fowl Pox. I saw it and thought "well it's DRY so should be fine" Now I come home from 1 week away and it has turned WET.
Here are some photos.
First there were Black scabs on his head. Now his ( Left) eye is very red and the lid is swollen and it looks pussy but there is nothing coming out. His left side of the head is swollen. His right nostril is dripping goo (like yellow infected snot) like he has a cold.
He is still out with the girls eating like a champ and poohing. I have been investigating the pooh everyday after the Blackhead breakout.
We feed them fresh picked dandilion greens, clover and plantin every day. They also get very ripe pears and apples, plus acorns if they want them. AND dry turkey food with grit all day (they have an open trough).
I read this...Fowl Pox is a virus and cannot be treated with any antibiotics (which are all designed to fight bacteria not viruses); however, secondary infections are common with FP.
And so....My husband held him for the photos, i looked in his mouth, looks okay, doesn't sound like his breathing is bad.
Any suggestions?
Someone mentioned Iodine on all the sores.
I have an antiseptic cream that I made out of Bee's wax, coconut oil and tea tree oil. Can I use that on his sores?
Should I do anything about his eye? Drops? I have Homeopathic Calendula eye drops (anti-septic, biotic, and inflamitory)
