hi there!
so earlier this week we noticed that one of our twin barred rock pullets was acting a little bit odd. she had obviously also lost a bit of weight. considering that her and her sister had just been moved into the same coop as our older, bigger chooks, we just thought that maybe she hadnt been getting enough feed. i took her and fed her some eggs and chick feed, which she scoffed down fine.
next day she was even more lethargic. when we picked her up, we felt that her crop was overly large and super squishy. having had experience with another chicken who had crop issues, we figured that little esmeralda was probably suffering with a sour crop.
for the past 4 days we've been giving her nyastin twice a day to no avail. we were also vomiting her the other day but decided to stop that (and the medicine) due to the potential dangers.
she is now seperate to our other chickens with her sister (they can't be parted; it's very cute). there is apple cider vinegar in her water and she is also being given coconut oil, in hope that it will ease her crop if it is impacted. there is a supply of chick feed mixed in with grit in her coop.
i've tried to feed her plain yoghurt and boiled eggs, as apparently they may help her out. however she just won't touch them unless i give them to her with these leaves (there is this tree in our yard which has these leaves that our chickens go crazy for), but im worried that the leaves will just be feeding the yeast in her belly and thus worsening her condition.
she's still drinking a tonne (which is good -i think), and has energy, as in she still willingly goes outside to roam the backyard, and will still attempt to chase after her friends. she's barely eaten anything in the past few days. occasionally when she bends down after a drink she will vomit a bit; it is mostly clear and water i assume, and is as if her crop is over flowing.
my sisters and i are all so worried about her, and are really trying everything to get her better. she's lost so much weight and is so weak and sleepy.
please help guide us as to how we can help our baby put on weight and fight off this nasty illness!
all advice is greatly appreciated!
