Hello everyone. Right now I currently use an old wooden grain bin as my chicken coop but am looking at building a new one this spring. I've taken a look at alot of posts here to get some ideas from and I think I've come up with a pretty good coop plan myself but I would love some extra feedback from anyone in regards to what I could change to make it better.

I've attached the image. Made it with a phone app. It's the best thing I have available to me at the time.

The whole thing will be insulated due to cold Canadian winters (I'm from Saskatchewan). I will have around 300 chickens in the summer and close to 100 over the winter months. Maybe more in the winter in future years. I don't have the nesting boxes drawn in there yet, not sure of best place to put them but that can be changed any time.

Any suggestions on changes anything else will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Haha I have to build myself one first. Hopeing it doesn't end up costing too much. Thanks =)

With that many chickens you should go all out and install a ridge vent on your coop with vented soffits and gables. You're going to need it. As far as cost, unless you have really cheap lumber good luck on that. I would make nesting boxes externally accessible, but that's because I don't like stepping in poop on a daily basis.

Wish I could read the dimensions.
Looks like a decent layout but don't think it's big enough for 100 birds let alone 300.
Also need to get the roosts laid out in there and nests, feeder waterer etc.
Knowing your climate/location would help too

I currently have a wooden chicken coop covered in steel siding! I'd like to tear it down and make a coop inside a hillside! I figured it would stay cool during the summer and warm in the winter! Am I crazy for thinking about doing this? I just would like to use the natural resources i already have on my farm!

Welcome to BYC!

It would be best to start a new thread with the details of your location and of your design idea.
Pics of site would be great.
