Hello Everyone!

We've got the chicken fever! We just bought our first home and are gathering all the info. we can to start our own little flock this Spring. We are interested in learning all we can before we buy/order our little chicks and can't wait for the fun, companionship, and EGGS our chickens will give us.

The best place I know of to start is with the Learning Center. It's full of articles to help you get off on the right foot. The search box (upper left, under the logo) is also a great way of finding answers to questions you may have.

And don't ever be worried about asking questions...everyone was new at some point and we're all here to help one another.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

And congrats on your decision to get your own flock.

IMO you are doing this the right way, research, plan and then make the jump.

But, do build larger than the minimum coop/run requirements, get started on the building by the time you get those chicks, they grow so fast and enjoy every minute

Enjoy your feathered friends! I am a duck person, of course - but, my friend has chickens that are just adorable! I have no ducks right now; I am trying to convince my dad to help me fix the duck pen - of course he will, but when he will is a different matter lol (He rlly is the best though - He cared about the ducks almost as much as me!). Anyways. BYC is great, and you are clearly a very hard working person. This site has so much information stored, and so many new friends to meet!
