Hello,

I've lurked for a while, and joined. St. Louis is all stuck at home for the 4day weekend, so this seemed like a good time to investigate my plans for the flock. There are 5 of us here near New Melle. We keep:

5 Turkey - 4 Midget Whites and one mis-breed BBB hen.
9 Ducks - 3 crested Pekin and 6 Swedish
Mixed Layer flock - I have a heart for Welsumers, but my "buyers" love the EasterEggers. My kids like SLWyandottes. One daughter loves her Buff Polish.

My next big project is moving the ducks back to an old draft horse pond, but they need housing. I like to keep the "dinner chickens" JCX where the ducks are overwintering. It's well shaded and on the back side of the garden, with a coop barely off the ground - - perfect for those fatties. So there needs to be some construction and eviction.

My kids are 4H'rs and we have fun with that aspect.

I'd really like to hear from Turkey people, as they seem to cause me the most concern.

Raising poultry with kids is really rewarding all the way around, glad to hear your kids are part of it all. I've never raised turkeys (tho they look like fun) but you have the link from redsoxs to get you started there.

Good luck with all your projects, it's nice to have you here!

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
