hello everyone

am looking at getting ducks for fall (juvenile ducks) and have a few questions whether or not what types i should get.

first off i go away during the summer months, meaning sometimes they could go with out any one checking on them for up to 4 days. would this be a problem? i plan on setting up big 55 gallon drums for water and feed .

next can call ducks be housed with other ducks? am looking at welsh harlequin, Indian runner, and khaki Campbell. (all hens for egg production)

next what do duck eggs taste like?

also are call ducks good mothers if i let them incubate there own eggs (or should i use a incubator or a broody silkie bantam)

thanks for reading itsasmallfarm out :)

This shouldn't be too much of a problem, as long as you dont mind not having their eggs collected for four days. You need to make sure their coop (Or where they stay...) Is completely predator proof, and their is water and feed provided at all times...55 gallon drums seems more than enough to provide for 4 days. How many ducks do you plan on getting? How exactly will they access 55 gallon drums...?

I leave my chickens and ducks for certain periods of times, but never longer longer than a week UNLESS i have someone else to watch them. You need to make sure thee ducks will not pig out and eat all the food till they get fat....ducks tend to do that. How will you keep their water clean for 4 days? Its no good if their water is all poopy on the first day, you'll end up with sick ducks....ducks ALWAYS make a mess. And ALWAYS get poopy water...

I imagine so....i dont have call ducks, but @RavynFallen can probably give you a better answer

That, is a hard one to answer, its a different taste to chicken eggs, is the best i can describe

@RavynFallen Can definitely help you with this one, the amount of calls that she has she'd be more than happy to help....
