So excited to be a part of BYC! I should be getting 10 layers this spring, and maybe a few meat chickens too. Are there any certain breeds you guys prefer? Again, so excited and can't wait to start learning :)!

Welcome!
Buff orpingtons and ameraucanas are my favorites!! :)
Edited to add reasons why they are my favorite
Have been my best layers
And are very cold hardy

Welcome!

Good luck with your venture into chickens.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Thank you for joining us at Backyard chickens. Some popular breeds are Buff Orpingtons, Black Australorps, Wyandottes, etc.

Greetings from Kansas, tinylittlechick, and :welcome! Pleased you joined our flock! I have always liked Speckled Sussex, naked necks, Delawares, and Orpingtons. I am sure you will like whatever breeds you choose! Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC! :)

The chickens I've enjoyed the most have been Speckled Sussex and the red sex girls...the first for their beautiful feathering & personalities and the second for their eggs & wackiness.

No matter what you end up with, have fun and enjoy!
