So, our crib barn has no electricity (never has), to fix the no light issue in the conversion into chicken coop, I believe I've created a plan. I'm going to put 12v van cargo lights in the coop room and the egg gathering room along with 12v light strips in the hen boxes. This will be wired into a 3 switch panel for off and on separated. This in turn will be wired into deep cycle 12v marine/rv batteries, which will be wired to a 10 watt 12v solar trickle charger to keep the batteries topped off. Thoughts?
 
Go with LEDs. They'll use far less juice.
If the trickle charger doesn't keep up, you can always drag the battery up to the house and recharge it.
The lights won't be on much so it should work, at least as a starting point.

The van cargo lights are LED, I should've stated that. Same as the light strips
 
Same answer I gave on HST.......headlight would work fine since you're not after supplemental winter laying lighting.

headlight wouldn't exactly be great for the toddlers to see if they're helping after dark. I want the room lit up, not just where my head is pointing.
