Help. Not 100% sure if this is a rooster or Hen. We have 7 Chickens all about 5 months.

1 in question because hes larger then the rest and he cock-a-doodle-doos.

He is a very pretty bird.

Tried to do some research and figure it out. Ive read that some dominate hens can still cock-a-doodle-do, but the tail feathers also look similar to a hen. Also the comb on top is not that significant and nothing underneath the beak. I posted a couple pictures.

Thanks for the advice.

That's an Easter egger cockerel (young rooster).

In the first pic, see those pretty blonde feathers hanging down in front of his tail? those are called saddle feathers, and only on males are they so long, pointy and flowing. Look at your hens, they don't have them. Same for the longer feathers on the neck, called hackle feathers. Hens don't get those, they're a male thing.

As to the comb/wattles, that is due to his breed. Easter eggers have what is called a pea comb. It's smaller, with three little rows instead of one big sawtooth sticking up like a striaght comb. Pea combed birds also have small wattles (under the chin), not the big fleshy ones hanging down that a straight combed bird has.

Here's a pic of different comb styles....
