What is the lifespan of a Texas A&M male quail? I am the owner of a 5 year old and I never expected him to live this long. Is this normal?

Is it normal for his interest in the female quail to b little to nothing? I assume it's his age and hes slowed down but he has no interest in the quail hens.

X2 on the average lifespan, but they can live to 7 even 8 years of age occasionally. I have a 7 year old Bobwhite male right now and he is still full of interest for hens, however his brother, who passed away last summer of 6 years stopped mating with his mate at age 5 years. Each bird is different in health, attitude, energy levels, etc.... Just like humans they all age at different rates.

But you have obviously taken good care of him if he is 5! It is the higher end of average!!

Yes he is very well taken care of he's the favorite of the 5 that I do have. All 5 of my quails are well taken care of and I've researched many sites and I couldn't find anything about a Texas A&M living longer than 3 years. You also must take very good care of your bob white if he's that old! My Texas quail lost interest for the hens I have around the beginning of this year. He just stays to himself and seems to be happy that way.

My birds are spolied rotten. LOL Some passed away at ages 4 and 5 naturally. I had one die at 3 from flying into the 6 foot ceiling of the aviary, and some that made it to 6 and 7. One and only one hen had just turned 8 and she passed away. She is the mother of this old boy I have now! His name is Simon. Crotchety old quail. LOL

My quail are also spoiled. I give them special food and treats as well as a comfortable living space. The elderly Texas is the oldest one I have and have ever had. I have a jumbo brown hen (Peanut) and an Italian hen (Pooter) that I got back in June of 16 when they were 2 weeks old.In July I adopted a 2 month old male Texas A&M (Buddy). Then in August I got a 2 week old male rosett (Cricket). My elder quail is Junior and he is the favorite among the others and he knows it. Yes my quail have unique names but they are unique. Simon is beautiful. How old is he exactly he sure don't look like hes old.

Hehehehehe....

My Simon is 7 years old but that pic was taken a few years ago. He does look like a youngster there doesn't he! LOL I love that picture as he is right in your face. Ha!

The most recent pic I have was taken last summer when I moved the few I had left into a small chicken coop and run. Here he is when he was 6 years old last summer...

He looks a little rougher this year and I will see if I can get a picture of him tomorrow.

Simon does not look like an elderly quail at all! He is beautiful. My 5 year old is nicknamed Paw now because he reminds me of an elderly man. He is very spoiled and get an attitude. Yes, at times my Italian likes to take over the bed and make herself comfortable. Is Simon friendly and likes to be pet and held or is he reserved?
