Introducing sod, risks of coccidia due to rabbits?

So my baby chicks are now a little over 2 weeks. They are on non-medicated chick feed, but I am also offering fermented chick food twice a day, which they love. From reading here, it looks like it's beneficial to introduce them to a patch of grass with some soil, but we have wild rabbits in our yard and they poop almost everywhere, and wondering if the soil may therefore introduce too much coccidia and put the chicks at risk? The chicks will eventually be free range so they'll inevitably encounter that rabbit poop any how.

I got them grit and was planning to start giving it in these days, but wondering if just the patch of grass is enough and a better option, so they can get a bit of "grit" and exposure to bacteria to improve immune system. We live in Arizona and our soil is mostly sand and small particles of rocks.

If you're in Arizona, I'm thinking your risk of cocci is pretty low, unless you're having some weird wet weather. Cocci likes warm and wet, not dry.

that said, I'm a proponent of the earlier the better. I put sod in my brooder from week 1. Just a clump. When they've worked that over, I pull it out and put in another lump.

I live in a warm, wet area and have had cocci issues in the past, but not in brooder chicks since I've been doing this. I feed medicated feed sometimes, sometimes not, it just depends on what I have on hand.

I'd say give them the sod and let them go at it!
