Hi, I picked up three, one-week-old Pekin ducklings today. We have a large coop and one four-year-old Rhode Island Red, who is very mellow. I cleaned the coop, which is 12 X 10, and put the ducklings in a new baby pool with a heat lamp and the same fresh pine shavings as I put down in the coop. I have to admit, they did get wet while they waited fir me to prepare for them because they spilled their temporary water pan along with pooping in it. They seemed quite comfortable when I left them around 5 PM, but when I went to check on them at 8, they were all itchy, pecking and scratching and rubbing non-stop. Red was perched for the night. Are they okay?

! Great to have you aboard! Not sure what's up with your ducks but you might post in the Ducks Forum in the link below and ask - the folks there are very knowledgeable: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks
Best wishes and thanks for joining BYC!

Hello and welcome to BYC. I'm sure that the duck peeps will be able to advise.

Best wishes

I think the Duck thread would be the best place for your questions. I don't think they'd be allergic to pine shavings but

I don't know much about ducks. What are you feeding them?
