Ok...so we bought these two birds a little over a week ago. One has always been bigger than the other but I thought maybe it was as much as a week older. They were both sold as Wyandottes. My question isn't so much about the breed but whether one is a roo. The first one has darker legs, is larger and has more comb development than the second. Pictures are below. Let me know your thoughts on whether one is a different breed from the other, just a bit older, or is a cockerel (sp). Thanks!!

I have been trying to upload these all day. We came home and gave all the chicks some outside time and when Bird One started making noise it didn't chirp like the others. It sounded like a teenage boy, for lack of a better way to say it.
 
Bird one looks older than bird two. It's really too early to say gender for sure.

Neither of those birds are Wyandottes. Not sure what they are, where did they come from?

Tractor supply. I was wondering a bit about the breed as well. I have seen others posted as Wyandottes that looked the same and some different.

I should also say that all the other chicks they said were wyandottes look like these.

Chick one does not look like a Wyandotte to me, based on the comb. Wyandottes should have rose combs, and this chick appears to have a single comb. I am thinking that they are Australorps, and especially because Tractor Supply often carries this breed. I agree that chick one looks older than chick two. Though it is a little early, a am guessing that one is a cockerel based on the relatively large comb. Have fun with these cute chicks!

Ah ha! So let's throw this into the mix. At the same time we purchased this chick which was labeled as Australorp. Her name is Joey.

So, I'm gonna go against the grain on this one - for now. OP, could we have a close up, head-on, facing-the-camera-directly picture of chick #2s comb?

My guesses are Australop on #1, and I would lean 60/40 that it's a cockerel. Then again, Aussies can have pretty large combs - I would judge more by color than size.

Chick #2 appears to have a rose comb. Blue Wyandottes have recently started to be offered by hatcheries - and of course blue does not breed true, so some chicks will be black, like chick #2.

Chick #3 is blue, right what appears to be a rose comb. (i'd love a closer comb pic of this fella, too.) Blue Wyandotte.

You said you were sold two Wyandottes and an Australorp? Is it possible you just misheard which chick was which? Because in my opinion, that's exactly what they are.

Of course, it is possible we got mixed up. But they had two bins near each other. One labeled Australorps and the other Wyandottes and something else. I know they picked two out of the wyandottes and one from the australorps. And given that chick one and chick two look more like each other than either look like chick three and my memory of chick three coming out of the australorp bin, I think the error would be in how tsc had them labeled.

Of course, we love them whatever they are! :) Just want to know what to expect.

We are in search of some ameraucana to add to our flock. And honestly I want a Leghorn to give a white egg so they aren't all brown. :)
