So we have this chicken we raised from an egg and called Sparrow for some reason and she's really ugly but we love her because she genuinely has a good personality and is a KIND chicken.
Anyway back to the point. Last summer when she was a pullet it was really hot out so we decided to see if she'd like a dip in a little bath. Well, she did. We used a large red bucket, filled it with water, and placed her in it. She floated quite happily until she'd had enough and then jumped out.
So she hadn't gone for a 'swim' for a while (she'd gotten quite good at it) because winter but today we decided to see if she remembered how and lo and behold, she did.
It wasn't just the swimming that's weird. Afterwards, we put her on her back in a towel and she sunbathed for a solid 15 minutes, eyes closed, wings spread out. On her back, I remind you. We wrapped her in the towel, and she continued to 'meditate,' happily swaddled in the towel, bathing in the sunlight. She also let us rub her down with the towel, making soft rumbling noises of content.

Is our chicken normal? Should we be slightly concerned, or let her live out this lavish lifestyle at our expense?

I do not know that it is "normal" but there is no reason for concern based on the things you mentioned and she seems to be happy. Personality means a lot when dealing with chickens and I would keep a somewhat high maintenance bird who was KIND and get rid of mean and bully birds even if, physically they are good looking. Do you have any pics of her? Best Wishes!

chickens don't usually swim... I mean they can but a lot of times they end up drowning... any who my guess is that your chicken is cold I'm sure your chicken is much heavier after swimming than before. That is because the feathers soak up the water so I'm sure the chicken is getting chilled those rumbles may be not as happy as you thought lol

Chickens can't really swim - for a short time (before feathers get saturated) they can float. If they cannot get out from a kiddy pool or bathtub, or accidentally land in someone's real pool, they do drown. It's not cute.
