Does Anyone else grow barley fodder for their chickens?? I am trying to troubleshoot some problems I am having and can't seem to find good info.
So my set up is a wire shelves from lowes.. we have 10 kitty litter pans that we drilled lots of holes in the bottom to make a shower watering system. We tried the gravity style and we found the pans were not getting evenly watered that way. The shower allowes all the pans to get watered.
My issue is that I get great sprouts, great green grown... but my root mat is very very poor!! , like virtually no root mat. I have no idea why I am not getting that nice strong thick root mat??
we have no mold issues, temsp are 65 to 70 , humidity is around 50% , I water twice a day and make sure everything floods and drains... any help would be great!!!

... about a week ago I messaged a guy off you tube to ask about it, and he also suggested that maybe my seed depth was not enough to get a good root mat... so I increased the seed in the pans.. I am almost to day 7/8 on that pan, so I am just waiting to see how that little experiment worked out... will keep you posted. I have pretty large pans, since I am trying to feed my rabbits and chickens with it, so I am thinking that I just wasn't getting enough seed in there.. BOY do my rabbits love this stuff!! they litterally run to the cage doors to get their fodder each night..lol and the chickens love it , but they seem to go after the seed part first and the greens get sort of scratched around...
