Nesting Box

No, I don't think the orientation matters. In one coop, which is 6x8, the nest boxes are on a 6' side and the door is on an 8' side and the pop door into the run is on the opposite 6' side. So in relation to the human door the nest box is on the side but in relation to them coming and going to the run the nest boxes are on the back side lol. The other coop is 8x10 with the human door on an 8' side, nest boxes on a 10' side and door to the run on the opposite 10' side. Geographically, with coop #1 the nest boxes are on the west side and coop #2 they are on the east side. All in all I don't think any of it matters as long as it has privacy and is not drafty or leaky or where the sun will be coming in through a window and making it really hot in there.

Oh thank you for mentioning the sun coming in! the length of the coop/run would be going North/South which means if I put windows on the East/West sides it would be bad. I guess the windows and vents will be in the front and back instead of the easterly or westerly sides... Hadn't thought of that!

Yeah it just depends on how everything is oriented. My coops are long enough and the way the windows are arranged that even though the boxes are on the east and west sides, very little sun shines into them during the day.
