I started with four female Mallards, one started sitting on unfertilized eggs. After a while another duck disappeared and must have taken the first ducks spot. I am assuming a predator got the first duck. Again after some time another duck disappeared and again I am guessing a predator got the second duck and now the last and final duck has taken over the nest. So to recap four ducks in the beginning and assuming three have been taken by predators and only one duck left who has now taken over the nest. I have tried removing the eggs throughout this whole process and they relocate. The nests are in the bushes in the front yard so completely unsafe. The others could be alive I suppose sitting on a new nest somewhere I can't find but I don't see them anymore come out to eat and drink, so I am assuming they have been attacked by predators. They have a coop and a giant fenced pond and have been safe for a year now. I do not want this duck to die as well. What should I do? How can I get her to quite laying in the bushes and lay in the safety of the coop? Very sad to see only one lonely duck left. Please help!

Is it possible that Wild Mallards came and lured your females away?.....The Wild Mallards have been landing in my yard to get at my females and my Drake who is an Appleyard tries to take the Hens to the Mallards...I have to keep my Ducks penned up now till breeding season is over...;)

Best wishes...:)

We have dogs. No specific guard animal. They have a giant pond that is fully fenced. There is an enclosed coop as well but they choose the pond nightly. Up until a month ago they were laying in straw in the coop, then they went to the bushes in the front yard on the farm. I did locate one more but her spot is equally not safe. It is a big property, with thorny bushes so it is challenging to find them once they move. I have not clipped wings and up until recently they would make regular flights over the land.

Is there anyway to move the nest to either the coop or the pond area?

It is possible. Although we have not seen any drakes come down on the land. It is possible they flew off though. I have never penned them. They have a fenced in areas that are predator proof. I haven't clipped their wings so they can fly in and out of the enclosures.

Thank You
