Ok outside of placing baby turkey with baby chicks as that is out at this point how do some you that have had baby turkeys get them started to eat and drink?? This one reminds me of the story of the Ugly Duckling..it won't eat or drink..I do have some sugar in water and put its beek in it to get it to take a drink and sprinkled some of its food on its floor area on top of paper towel to try and eat..need help....

Poor baby, I feel so sorry for them. I think they do catch on, I can't remember mine not eating but I know they did not get to it the first day or two. Try to dampen the food a bit and leave it on the ground. See if that helps.

You can put marbles in the water, they like shiny things, also some people have put marbles in the food.
I must have smart Turks, they ate and drank immediately and haven't stopped yet

My guy was the same way!! If you make wet mash for them and stick there beak in the water dish. That should help. But definetly do the marbles in the water. Is he all alone or does he have friends? If he or she is alone you might want to put a stuffed animal in with them. Warmth and comfort. He might be depressed if all alone....Good luck

I had water with marbles in there no such luck..lady bought from told me to put the food on the floor of its area first few days that should perk up in about 5 days..also to put sugar in water for extra energy..so I have been stickinging its beek in water and it will then take a drink..will do this for another day and then go back to the regular plain water with marbles..thanks for any suggestions you have given and have taken all to heart and trying any of them..

When I first got my baby chickens I pecked at their food and water with my finger. They watched and once I did it a few times they got the idea.

I have never had any baby turkeys but had a baby chick that wouldn't drink or eat. I tried and tried even with a dropper to get a drop of water into it but to no avail. I died anyway. I kept it in the house on a heating pad. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

With my day old turkey, and peachicks. Feed them the yolk of hard boil eggs. Over the starter feed. try putting the feed on foil. Use red base feeders. Dip each ones beak in the water.(sugar water first day)

Make sure to feed a medicated feed 24% starter. Good luck with them.

What I do, with poults...is wet my finger..and stick it in the feed...they will peck at your finger...then lower your finger towards the feed bowl...this may take a few time before they " get it" Good luck with it..turkeys sure can be slow learners!

I put up to 10 day old chicks with my poults, they do teach them to eat. when i do this I never loose a poult to not eating. they can stay togeter for up to a month without any problem.
