It's not guaranteed that the resulting chicks would all lay colored eggs.  Some of your EEs may carry a recessive gene for white egg shell, so it could end up with two white egg shell genes and end up laying white, tint or brown.  White egg shells would be (w w).  Blue could be (b b) or (b w).

If your EE carries the pure blue, then you would get:

      w         w

b   bw      bw

b   bw      bw

So, all chicks would have the blue egg shell base.  Depending on whether or not the chick inherits any brown coating or not, the chicks would lay blue or green eggs

If your EE carries the blue gene with the recessive white gene, then you could get:

      w       w

b   bw     bw

w   ww    ww

So, half would lay white shelled eggs and half would lay blue shelled eggs and depending on whether or not the chick inherits any brown coating or not, half could lay blue or green eggs, half could lay white, tint or brown.

If I am right, I the SS lays a light pinkish brown, so the brown coating on your eggs would be light unless, of course, your EEs laid an olive green and add the brown coating from her side, then you would get some brown ones!

An EE is generally considered a mix of chicken breeds that result in colored eggs.  So, some of yours would be EEs and some not.  You wouldn't call a mix between RIR and SS an EE just because it is a mix, no, an EEer is one that lays colored eggs.

ok got the heat element in for my cabinet. Not particulary pleased with the GQF website, for one thing, checking it this morning to see if my order had shipped yet, and my order still says "PROCESS". close down their site and a knock on the door, it's FEDEX delivering it. Also, the picture of the part on the site shows the element, the porcelain insulators, and the screws. only when you get it, you find out the screws aren't included. Not that screws are that big a deal, but the picture would indicate they should be included. I'm just funny like that, expecting to get what their pic respresents........

anyway, after bugging GAM and Eric the last few days about hole sizes, placement and shelf spacing, I'm hopefully going to get this up and running this afternoon. I put 2 dozen eggs in the foam bator GAM bought but let me borrow, and hopefully after I get the WCB put together and run it over night, I'll be able to move them into it!

I'll post pics after I finish it. I cut some of my scrap I used to build that box around the other heater to cover the holes, some spray in expanding insulation and silicone sealant and hopefully this will be good to go!

1 Blue Ameraucana rooster, 3 Blue Ameraucana Hens, 2 Black Australorp hens, 3 White Leghorns, , 1 Splash  Ameraucana Rooster, 1 splash Ameraucan Hen, 1 australorp/ameraucana (EEs)  3 Mille Fleur D'Uccle pullets 3 Mille Fleur D'Uccle Roosters, 5 welsummer pullets

Oh wow..Thanks for all of that info and it makes sense. So I breed them to a AM rooster and still got EE. I am putting that SS rooster in there, just not gonna hatch any of their eggs. I sold his ladies and he is angry. He will regret the day he gets these ladies, they will pluck him balled. HAHA! Or at least they did the AM rooster they had, they chased that pore rooster all over the place. We will see if the SS rooster can get them under control. He is very protective and these girls have moments of CRAZY so he may just end up with bad nerves. :th

seriously, I took the water hose in and filled the bucket in the ameraucana pen the other day and you'd have thought I walked in there with a hatchet in my hand or something. And Lord forbid laying down the feed bag after I fill the feeder  :barnie

They don't like anything new or unusual for sure. Their father was an AM and I think that added to their crazy. HA! The bantam EE's I have are the same way. They lay year round or at least these do, but they are wild as the big ones.

It's those egg-layer/Mediterranean lines. These brown leghorns I have are INSANELY afraid of everything. Almost worse than the AM I think..

So what are you using as your thermostat to turn the element on/off?    that is the only reason I haven't ordered the one from GQF.

I'm happy, I had a dozen escapees from the brooder into our garage/storage area.   VERY cluttered out there, but I was able to catch all but 3 yesterday.

Two of the escapees were Fayoumis, who can run and jump!  Even at 6 weeks they were a challenge.

I put out a feeder and when I went back out I caught one of the Fayoumis and the Jersey Giant.    Then went I just went out I managed to catch the last one, after putting a fence around some boxes of books, then moving the boxes one at a time.

Funniest part was calling for help when I caught it, cause I didn't have 2 hands to restack the boxes!

Still looking for a black Orpington rooster.   LOL, the rest of my wishlist is met for this year :)

Well, a new big cabinet incubator would be amazing.

My DD decided to try a diet that doesn't have any preservatives in it so she sent her shipment of Nutrisystems that was already paid for to me!  Got it today, at least the dry stuff.  The frozen stuff comes tomorrow!  Anyway, she also sent me the whole BeachBody Tai Cheng Program.  It is designed to help us with our balance, flexibility and strength.  It's suppose to be for me and DH, but he says he doesn't want to do it because he's too old and his body is broken.  Well, duh!  That's what this is for!  Helps you be able to bend and move again!  Believe me, I'm not as bad as he is!  He is the one who should be using it!

So, I need to lose about 35 pounds.  (Again)  Wish me luck!
