Hey folks, I need help with my "new" egg scale. I just bought a very rusty scale off of ebay. All of the writing on the scale is gone. I'm going to clean it up and paint it with a nice rendition of Liz (BR in my avatar), plus add new measurement markings on it.

Can someone who has this scale tell me how I should adjust it? I can't see the writing about how to balance it on the photo below. (Use adjustable screw for -__what?)

Also, my scale does not have the little thing that looks like a cotter pin, which is the "leveling device"? How is that used? Do I need it? It seems not to be connected to the rest of the scale, from what I have seen of photos on ebay.

Thanks for any help!

Edited to add: I am not selling my eggs, so I don't care if it is super-accurate. I am just using it for my egg-journal.

The scale is supposed to look like this:

Hi,

I can't help you with the scale but I purchased a new one in the same style and I found it wasn't as accurate as I would like. So now I use a digital scale, which works well for me. The other one serves as a cute decoration, as it's chicken-shaped. Hope this helps! Genie

I have the exact same scale.
Some of the words are scratched off on the bottom, but it does say: "Take Balance At Red Point - Use Adjustable Screw F....." The rest of the words are scratched off.

I adjusted the screw in the back (on the weight) until the pointy arrow part on the front was level with the words "Jiffy Way" which is below the first measured 'small' section.
Does that make any sense?
I figured it would be like setting it a zero. The weight almost touches the metal base in the back.

I like mine. I'm sure the weights aren't exact, but I can keep track of who's laying and what size eggs I'm getting.

Sorry if that was too confusing!

I bought one from ebay and had to pay postage to return it. It was way off and would not adjust . Now I have a new one and love it.
Take it to a bakery shop and they will do a comparison to help you get it as close to accuate as you can by comparing there scale.

Thanks, Catalina. Funny that those words seem to get rubbed out even if you have the rest of the paint!

Maybe the fact that I am drawing my own scale markings on it, will actually make it more accurate!

Chicken women, bummer that your scale didn't work. Was it inconsistent in where the needle moved for the same weight, or were the markings just off? The scale part of it seems pretty simple.

I hadn't even thought of a bakery (interesting idea, hmm. this is a good reason go to check out the yummy treats bakery down the street?!

) I had in mind to make up a couple of envelopes to exactly the weights listed, and weigh them at the PO scale. There is a self-service one in our PO lobby. Then I can bring them home and use them to calibrate the scale.

I think I'll stick with the PO idea, but make a trip to the bakery anyhow! Those chickens, they really know the word "treats" and occasionally the human should get one, too!

I got a new one the incredible egg scale made by fall harvest products.
the little screw does not do anything lol, but it has one like on the old jiify scales,
but screwed all way in it dont touch near anything,
there were no papers that came with it

I also have the Incredible Egg Scale and was disappointed that there wasn't any paperwork that came with it. I saw the screw and have no clue what it does, if anything. If it is just something decorative, I wish there was something that with it stating so.
