Hubby has one of those sebaceous cyst things on his lower neck near (back) his left shoulder. It was the size of a walnut for about a hundred years, til lately. I have been haunting him about getting rid of 'quazimoto' for years. Did he listen?

Well, now it decided to get angry and it's infected now. It's the size of a plum now. Hubby is a CPA busy season is upon us (we work together) so he finally went to the Dr. to get a prescription for antibiotic, ( he has an appt to see dermatologist in a week)

Eeek I know what I gotta do. This thing in gonna blow in a couple of days and I gotta be there for it....Anybody got any remedies to ease this thing before they cut it out? Or any advice?

LISTEN CAREFULLY:

It is EXTREMELY important that he go to a doctor to get it checked. I had a cyst removed from my neck and it was benign. A guy I go to church with had the same thing and his was cancer. He passed away about a year ago.

I know how men are about going to the doctor, but he needs to get it removed.

Yes, he waited too long, now it's acting up. I know it's only a matter of time, and because it's in an awkward spot he can't relieve it himself, it's gotta be me. (!)

He saw the Dr. today, you can only wait on something like this. It's one of those benign things....that shoulda been taken care of a long time ago! Doc said wait n' see. They all hope that sucker blows before you go in for surgical removal of the sac. Fun.

I am not a doctor, nor do I have any medical training so I am only telling you what I have done for boils etc.

You can buy Icthamol at a drug store, it is nasty, smells bad and you usually have to use a dishwashing liquid like Dawn that cuts grease to remove it. That being said I have Icthamol in jars that I use on my horses for various reasons.
It is a Drawing Agent. I had a boil once on my inner thigh, hurt like a son of a gun, I put Icthamol on it (using gloves) covered it with a non stick pad, it took a couple days but it drew it out and it drained.

Again, I am not telling you to do this just telling you about a drawing salve.
I have no idea if it will work on a cyst or not.

Do not squeeze it. He'd be better off if you lanced it before it blew, because a razor blade slice will heal much cleaner than torn and dying skin.

Good luck.

I know, he was just at the Doc's. They said not to do anything with it. Let it ride out with the antibiotic, which I think is the "lance" in this situation. He is scheduled for next Wednesday for the "removal" But I think I'm gonna be the one to take care of it. Ug. It looks very red and angry.

OK here's the weird part....I was looking at Jenn's triplet prego picture .. and it looks like that! On a smaller scale of course....

Oh and the outcome is gonna be different....

When I was about 12 i had a small boil/massive zit on my stomach. My mom popped it - I thought my guts were coming out. Over 20 years later, my mom still salivates at the toughts of The Zit That Topped All Zits.
