My little peepers hatched just two days ago. I'm really excited since this is my first brood. My only problem now is, since my chicks are two days old, Can anywone tell me what kind of behaviour to expect from my chicks? Also, my bigger problem is that i was wondering if they know how to drink water on their own; i have yet to see a single chick drinking or eating. Can anyone help? And if the need to know how to drink water, can anyone tell me how to teach them? Thanks alot!

Do you have a shallow container that sparkles I have a crystal low sparkling dish a pearl necklace came in they are attracted to the sparkles!!!!!

Or maybe a low container with shiney marbles?

Ms. Lewis Rich is right. If you are in doubt, put something sparkly or brightly colored (lime green works good) like marbles or the little flat glass disks you can buy in the craft section of Wal-Mart into their water (after washing them real good of course

) Then watch them for a bit.
As far as the eating, put down a piece of paper towel and scatter a bit of food onto it so they can see the individual crumbles. They should start picking at them and figure it out.
Good Luck! And Congrats on your first brood!

Definately put marbles in the bowl or small pebbles so they don't drown and don't have it very deep. You can take each chick and push its beak into the water, they will have it then.
With the feed take and keep taping your finger in the dish like pecking and they will figure that out too. Most chicks figure it out on there on, some need a little help. Are your chicks warm enough? Just trying to figure out if there is another reason. Congrats on your bidddies!!!!

You have to teach them how to drink the first time. Take EACH one and dip their beak in the water to get them to drink. Put some marbles in the water so they don't put their beak in too far and drown. You don't want to get their nostrils in the water that will also cause them to drown.

Sprinkle some chick starter on a paper towel and they should pick that up pretty quickly.

Make sure they have a heat lamp to keep them warm. If they are staying away from it it may be too hot so raise the light. If the stay huddled under the light it is too cold and you need to lower the light.

Good luck with your first chickies and if and when ever you need to ask ANYTHING about raising chicks just ask it on here and someone will be around to answer your questions and help you out.

I teach my chick to drink by filling an eye dropper with water and putting little water drops on their beak. They will start to peck the eye dropper and then will learn that pecking at things puts things in their beaks and gives them food and water.

I never had to teach mine to drink.Like someone said paper towel with chic starter sprinkled on it. Water in something (like chic waterer with marbles ). They always figger it out Quick...The first few days 2/3 they don't eat or drink much (there full of YOKE) after that There HOGS....cva34
