Just a hypothetical question....If you where to manufacture a cabinet size incubator.....

How many trays would you want? Would the trays also turn? Manually? Automatically? (aka Sportsman/Dickey/Other)
Wafer Thermostat? Electronic Thermostat? Other?
Outside cabinet material? Styrofoam? Wood? Plastic? Other?
Window in Top, Door or Both?
What should be the retail price of a quality made 3 tray Incubator?
Would you rather have a 2 tray that would sell for less?
Built In Thermometer/Hydrometer? Yes/No
Humidity Control Automatic or Manually?
Strictly an incubator, no hatcher shelf....
Light Inside or not? Any other options?

I'm doing some research on incubators, both old (pre-70's) and up to now. If you have any pic's of your older bators send them to me.
Although there are plenty of us that have made our own incubators, I'm not interested in them as I'm interested what would be an ideal bator that you would buy.

Thanks for your time.....

Automatically!
Electronic Thermostat
I would prefer the look of wood, but that's just me personally
Window in both door and top
I would guess $500-700 but I am not really good at guessing prices.

Would you rather have a 2 tray that would sell for less? Probably
Built In Thermometer/Hydrometer? Pros and con to both, it would be very conveient, but what if it went out
Humidity Control Automatic or Manually? Is that possible?
Strictly an incubator, no hatcher shelf.... I prefer both
Light Inside or not? Yes, that would be great!

Here is the description of my perfect cabinet incubator! Good Luck!

SAME CHOICES as Jay 1995...EXCEPT

Prefer Wood, then Steel/Aluminum, last last last choice=plastic.

It would also be nice if it had a computer camera to view operations from elsewhere, also features that are adjustable remotely by computer, an automatic mini-gatling-gun to defend against well-intentioned "meddlers" and a "SAFE" indicator that would tell you when it would be OK to open the windowed door in front. (It would ALSO be good if it would give you a figure of % expected hatches compared with actual hatches on a "real-time" basis !

Along with these few modifications, I think it would be GREAT! (especially if you can bring it to the retail market for under $5.00)

Ha-Ha.....sometimes just kidding (brainstorming) can "spur" the creation of a functional idea...........

The idea looked pretty good to start with!

I would wnat auto egg turner, 3 - 4 trays, wood, plastic or a mix of wood/glass
built in electronic thermostat/hydrometer, top door and the retail price of a three tray would I am guessing maybe $250? I think a light inside is nice, not a have to have, but a plus,
and always looking to save money, a two tray would be great as well. Are you looking at
building something, it is very interesting and I would love to hear more.

I'm happy to see there is still interest in this thread...I have been contemplating building an incubator, after purchasing a Leahy Favorite Incubator, made out of redwood....it is a model 1200 which has 8 trays, way to big for me and those little styrofoam units are cheaply made and cost so much. Perhaps some manufacturer will read our wants/needs and build one for under $300.00.

IDEAL? See a Dickey...

How many trays would you want? 2 or 3
Would the trays also turn? Automatically
Wafer Thermostat or Electronic Thermostat (offer both, for people who want to go cheaper or who like wafers)
Outside cabinet material? Wood
Window in Door - but LARGE
What should be the retail price of a quality made 3 tray Incubator? Do a 2 tray in the 400 and a 3 tray in the 600's
Would you rather have a 2 tray that would sell for less? I'd like that option yes.
Built In Thermometer/Hydrometer? Don't bother they go bad.
Humidity Control Automatic or Manually? Offer both. I dry hatch, it's not such a huge big deal.
Strictly an incubator - I'd make trays deep enough for hatching.
Light Inside if only one window, no light if window top and door.

I'm doing some research on incubators, both old (pre-70's) and up to now. If you have any pic's of your older bators send them to me.
Although there are plenty of us that have made our own incubators, I'm not interested in them as I'm interested what would be an ideal bator that you would buy.

My Brower looks like a Leahy or a Humidaire. Very close to all the same features. It's six drawer.
