Personally, I havent been inside a Wallyworld in about 4 years. Bottom line is that a full 10% of our national trade deficit with China can be traced thru your local Walmart Store. That in itself is enough to keep me from buying from Walmart.

With that said, yes, a huge amount of their pet food products can be traced back to china, as well as a large percentage of people food. China simply doesnt have the quality control of their exported food supplies to make me feel safe buying. Everything from dogfood to infant formula that has been imported from china has already made the news because of contaminates. Think before you spend your money, is saving a few pennies really more important than your personal or your pets health. Buy American, Be American.

sorry for my rant, as you can probably tell, I dont like Walmart.

Your screed against WalMart is a bit misplaced. First your 10% trade deficit is BS. Secondly WalMart used to sell quite a bit of American goods, and still sells some. It has gone down, just as it has gone down at other stores, as more and more of our manufacturing gets displaced and moves overseas. They just can't find large quantities of the goods they sell, manufactured in the United states, I defy you to find another major store with a much greater percentage of American made goods. Target, Kmart, Sears, Neiman Marcus - forget it.

What Walmart has against it, is that it is non-union, so unions spend tons of money trashing the company, in an effort to get people not to shop there, and in a despirate attempt to get the shop unionized, even though this will not help - and will actually reduce wages of people working there.

As for pet food, again, you get the same Purina cat food and Dog food as elsewhere. I am sure Purina doesn't say - that is for Walmart, lets import those Friskies from China just for them. Walmart does have some discount store brands which I am a bit weary of. Though I think you are confusing Walmart, with the deadly dog chews that were sold by Petco, you are transposing a PC store you like with Walmart.

Anyway, I was just looking here to find out what people thought of the WalMart selection of chicken feed. The feed they sell is made by an American Company Manna Pro, which was part of Carnation foods. The only thing I wonder about is the low protien content compared to other foods (15% vs 16 - 18% in other egg laying feeds). It does seem to be a lower end product made just for Walmart.

There are some stories on this thread that the Walmart food is from China, contains Animal protein, and chopped up feathers. All false Anti Walmart Garbage.

The feed is called Family Farm eggmaker 15 and is made by MannaPro, a large and respected American feed company.

Here is a list of ingredients:

Wheat Mill Run, corn distillers dried grain with solubles, corn, rice bran, soybean meal, calcium carbonate, salt

And the rest are normal vitamins and minerals - with the exception of propionic acid, a preservative. Of course the vitamins and minerals do have scary sounding names. The scariest menadione dimethylpyrimidinol bisulfite is Vitamin K.

No Animal protein, no feathers.

Interestingly I compared it to "Helen's Best" made by Kruses, which the local pet store/feed store and with the exception of molasses, and grit, and flavor enhancers - the ingredients are the same.

It it a cost savings? No, the pet store was charging 18 something for a 50 pound bag, Walmart 16 something for a 40 pound bag. So you aren't really saving money, but I am saving time. The pet store with the feed is 18 miles away. Walmart, less than a mile.

I won't buy a thing from them. I get all my feed so much cheaper right from the farmers who grow it. Corn is 7.00 for 50# wheat, oats and barley is 12.00 for 75# and a 55 gallon barrel is 55.00$. I have been burned too many times on the cheaply made WalMart products. I can buy the same identical brand for 10.00$ more and it last 3 times as long from my local hardware store. I bought bikes at WalMart same brand as the local bike store that cost me 50 bucks more. I have spent probably a 100 bucks keeping them going and not a dollar more on the bike store bike. It comes down to quality and WalMart won't pay for it simply put. Manufactures have two lines of products, the cheap WalMart line and and the good quality line that goes to local small stores.
When I do buy feed from a store, why buy 40# bags and wait for a available register when the feed stores takes it to your vehicle and stands behind what they sell? Plus you miss the way a feed store smells, a familiar face and a cup of coffee and a b.s.session- that Is worth a buck or two more to me.
