Hi, everyone! I'm in need of some advice so hopefully someone will be able to come up with an answer. Every few months I end up getting a soft shell egg. I have both Rhode Island Reds and Buffs in the same coop so I don't know which one lays it. I give them complete layer pellets plus as a treat I give them either or sometimes both grit and cracked corn. My chickens are free range so they are outside all day long and only get locked in at night which is mostly for their protection from nighttime predators.
