deflating subcutaneous emphysema?

If you don't prick it will it eventually go away? I have a capon after capon surgery from vet and he's so full of air what should I do? I left message with vet

Hello, I had one of my young polish hens with this problem just 2 months ago, and I'm happy to say she's fine! I separated her, and deflated her with just the open ended needle 2-3,times a day! It took about 5 days of deflating, and antibiotics, but she's perfect! I just laid her in my lap found the fullest spot, used alcohol to sterilize the area,I used a pretty big needle, it was a 20 gauge, stuck her and with the needle inserted i gently pushed the air out! You can hear it coming out, it's a hissing sound like any leak! Lol. Hope this helps!

Cant believe this is the only thread I can find about this. I have a more difficult situation because my female turkey is an absolute nightmare to catch and will not be held. at around 20lbs it is a challenge. My vet caught her Sunday, diagnosed her with subcutaneous emphysema and then told me nothing could be done and just to monitor it. Now I've read this I am very tempted to try and catch her and deflate her. But not if it's really not going to work. So I don't suppose anyone has had this go away on its own??

Thanks in advance!

i had a tom turkey develop this suddenly. It did go away on its own in about a week to 10 days.

I googled this just now because I have a rooster who suddenly developed this in his whole head and it looks like it's blocking his trachea. It's gotten worse in the last 24 hrs since I first found it. Since it's midnight, we can't go to the vet but I had to poke under his wattles with an 18 gauge needle and just kept massaging the skin. I think it's a little deflated now?View attachment 1355558
