I am currenty using Purina chick starter, but may consider using Nutrena for layer feed, based solely on the low sale price being offered right now, 40lbs for $7.49, $12 for 50 lbs of Purina. Is there much difference between the two? Advantages or disadvantages?

Thanks,
OC

Ya know I have the same issue. I knwo alot of the rabbit breeders I talked to use that food brand for rabbit food but I don't have any reviews on the chicken food. But same here....it runs $5 cheaper. My local feed stores don't carry it but I recently saw it at Costal Farm and Garden. I was wondering the same thing....

I am using Purina at the moment for my chickens, goats, and rabbits. But I use the Nutrena game bird stater and reg game bird food and I am happy with the results and ingredients.

I have been feeding Nutrena Layer for 4 - 5 months now and am very pleased with it. A 50lb bag is $10. The same amount of Purina is $15.

Man, I want to live where you guys do just for the feed prices! I decided to try the Nutrena (currently feeding Purina) and there's only one feed store that carries it here...$17 / 50#!!! But we pay $14/ 50# for Layena at all the stores that carry it here. We don't have any major chain stores like TSC or Farm & Fleet...only the ma & pa ranch stores.

23 bucks for 50lb here in Guam. And that's not organic.
Haven't seen organic for sale here.

Feed is expensive, but I love having the chickens

I was using Nutrena I liked the starter as it was so fine, but twice my chicks had cocci issues. They were inside in a brooder with clean water and food dish. I clean athe brooder at least twice a week so I know it wasn't because of that. I lost two polish at 5 weeks with it and then later another brooder had the same issues and I lost an EE. I recently switched to another brand that is more expensive Southern States but I like the mixture and it seems much yellower than the Nutrena. Of course the only store that sells Nutrena here buys in very large quanities and it sits for awhile so manybe that had something to do with it. Now I am paying 12.60 for 50# on sale and the Nutrena was 11.09 but I would rather pay the extra than loose any more babies.

Our local feedstore is currently phasing out the Nutrena layer crumbles and has clearanced them out to $7 per 50lb bag!!!! I am stocked up for quite a while now, been using it for about a month, and no problems whatsoever

I'm using it but not quite sure if I love it. It seems alot more dusty than the Dumor that I've used in the past.

I'm still going back and forth in my mind trying to decide if I'm happy with it.
