Our rooster was killed, we got a new one but he isn't breeding yet. So my question is, how long will our hens lay fertile eggs from when we had our old rooster. He's been gone for about 3 weeks. Could we still be getting fertile eggs? We are new to this and any response would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your roo.
You can get fertile eggs for 2-3 wks and possibly a bit more after the last successful mating by your roo.

So do you think we could still be getting fertile eggs? We just hatched our first batch of chicks. We only put 20 eggs in the incubator and we ended up with 18 chicks. It was so exciting we would like to do more but weren't sure if the hens eggs would be fertile. Any way to tell?:
You will need to crack open a few of yours and look for the "bullseye" on the yolk. Sometimes when you open them it is on the bottom of the yolk and you will need to gently turn it over with a spoon or fork to see it. Or just stick them in the bator wait 7-10 days and candle.
