Do roosters fight?

Ok, funny story... What I believe to be a WFBS bantam is around 8 weeks old or so. I call him Bonaparte because he really does look like a little general. He strutts around all proud and secure in who he is, but he rarely challenges anyone. Today he decides he is ready for some love. So, he hops on the back of my welsummer. The funny thing is, he is so light, she barely knew he was there and viewed him more as a nuisance than anything else. It was HysTeriCal!!! Then, after that, he cuddled all up to her under her wings and everything. It was the funniest thing ever. Today was his first crow too. High pitched and squeaky - absolutely the cutest thing.

My other little bantam(a d'Uccle) is the opposite. If he were a dog he would be a chihuahua. He took on my much larger and older roo today. This little guy has NO fear!!! And he is so stinkin' cute it is hard not to laugh appreciatively at his mini manly attempts at being big man on campus. He even tried to lay down the law with my grown BA hen!!! ha ha ha... Roos are like a box of chocolates...

Another note re. roos--
My guys have seemed to be the most vigorous about breeding when first entering "manhood." Some have been a bit over-enthusiastic at first and were stressful to hens, but mellowed out after a few months.
So if you wait out and compensate for youthful hormones, you may find you're able to keep 1 or 2 more cockerels than it initially seems will work.
